May 2024 Month in Review (1)

I’m still trying to come to terms with the fact that 2024 is already almost halfway over. I keep thinking, “Oh, so-and-so’s birthday is coming up in a few weeks,” or “Oh that event will be here soon,” but then I realize those things are happening this week. I’m just struggling to grasp that it is, in fact, June. I continue my pursuit of figuring out where all my time is going/how I can better manage my time, but I don’t have the answers yet…

What’s New?

  • May was an insanely busy month (and June will follow in her footsteps). I started the month by attending the Denver Mini Derby with my boyfriend, which was a blast. Like last year, I pitched the company to receive tickets as an influencer and was able to attend “for free” which was very exciting.
  • I also spent several days in Minnesota for my brother’s PhD graduation. We went camping in the Boundary Waters, a beautiful wilderness area on the Canadian border, and were surprised with a showing of the Northern Lights—such a magical moment. I was not expecting to cross off a bucket list item in May!
  • The rest of the month was filled with some mountain time—a bachelorette weekend in Blackhawk (a fake Vegas in the Rockies) and a conference for work in Keystone, CO. With all the travel there wasn’t time for much else! I think the only other thing that’s new is that work has been insanely busy all month. I’ve been working late a lot and haven’t been able to stick to my posting schedule as religiously as I’d like to (though I did get lots of fun trendy content posted to TikTok this month).

Today’s Outfit

I love that the color red has been having a moment in the past month or two. Red has always looked good on me, but it’s one of those colors that I, like a lot of people, typically associate with the winter and holiday season. I think it’s fun to find ways to style it in the hotter months, too! This outfit was my attempt to break into the red trend with pieces already in my closet. The gingham collar top was a hand-me-down from my mom’s cousin. It’s actually part of a matching set, but I decided to pair it with a denim skirt today instead. The red Kate Spade purse was a gift from my grandma, and I completed the look with a red lip and the cutest ladybug brooch (more on that later!). I think this outfit would look amazing with those red Adidas sneakers that I’ve been seeing everywhere lately.

Favorite Outfits from May

  • The ‘fit on the left is one of those looks that I just threw together and never expected to love so much. I had never worn this dusty rose bodysuit with the skirt before (the skirt’s pattern is redder than it is pink) but they ended up pairing so well together.
  • I’ve been trying to wear my Clara Sunwoo pieces more often since they have such a high cost per wear right now, so I decided to pair this yellow printed blouse with my black leather skirt—I love the combo and think it’s springy even with the black.

What I Watched

  • Anyone But You—I watched this movie on the plane ride back from Minneapolis purely because I had heard about all the drama surrounding its filming. It wasn’t very good, even for a rom-com.
  • “Sex and the City”—I watched this show in the background while scrapbooking throughout the month, and while I don’t think I would sit down on the couch to binge it, I actually thought it was really funny, the perfect show to throw on while working on other things.
  • “The Crown”—I finally finished the last season of “The Crown”, which I had started watching back in January. I didn’t find this more contemporary season as interesting as the older time periods, but I love how the show ended—I was curious what they would do to wrap it up and I think they did a really good job.

What I Read

  • The Butcher and the Wren by Alaina Urquhart—This crime thriller is written by one of the hosts of the Morbid podcast I listen to, which is the only reason I wanted to read it. Unfortunately, I thought it was really slow. She’s coming out with a sequel this fall, though, and I think I will probably still read it…

May Spotify Playlist

I know my monthly playlists are always a hodgepodge of random music, but I feel like May’s might take the cake—I have country songs, 90s/2000s pop rock that I’ve been hearing on the radio, songs played at the bachelorette, and a few tunes from the “How I Met Your Mother” soundtrack. Listen here.

What I’ve Been Loving Lately

  • My QueenMee ladybug brooch! I was sent this pin last month and have since worn it a couple of times—in today’s post, on a dress this work week, etc. It’s really well-made and so cute for summer. Most of my brooches are more of a winter vibe, and I typically wear them on sweaters. I’m enjoying the challenge of finding ways to wear this springy ladybug pin in new ways, like on the collar of this vintage top. I was also sent this cute pink bow headband from QueenMee, which I featured in my Derby Day outfits Reel. I didn’t end up wearing it to my Derby event, but maybe next year! I’m really impressed with the quality, it’s just not as versatile as a brooch.

What I’m Looking Forward to in June

  • This coming weekend I’ll be driving to Grand Junction to visit one of my best friends, who’s having a housewarming party. I can’t wait to catch up and see her new place—a short weekend roadtrip feels like the perfect way to kick off the summer.
  • The following weekend I bought tickets for my boyfriend and me to attend this 40s-themed event at the old Boulder airport. There will be WWII planes, lots of photo-ops, swing dancing, and even an authentic “war is over” radio announcement at the end of the night. You’re even required to dress in 40s attire—I’m SO excited!
  • The weekend after that (seriously, I have something going on every weekend in June) is my friend’s wedding. We’ve talked a lot about her décor decisions and whatnot throughout the planning process, so I’m really excited to see how it all comes together.
  • Annnd at the end of the month, I’ll be driving back to Boise to spend the week of the 4th of July with my family. I haven’t been home in a really long time so it’s going to feel so good to be back.
